Cxddie

Overview

Eleven CAD systems, one interface.

Cxddie connects to CAD systems in three ways. Agents use the same MCP tools for all of them, and you get the same workspace, 3D view, fan-out and Keep this.

GUI bridge

Cxddie launches the CAD application with a small Python bridge loaded. The bridge listens on the workspace's port and runs each request on the application's main thread, so agents edit the live document you can see. Each edit is a single undo step.

The document is binary, so Cxddie tracks it with git-lfs when it's available.

Code CAD

There is no CAD window. Cxddie renders the workspace's source file in the background and serves the session itself. It derives the 3D view, screenshots, mesh exports and sizes from the render.

The model is the source file. It diffs, merges and reviews like code, which makes it ideal for fan-out and pull requests.

App MCP

Some CAD apps ship their own MCP server. Cxddie connects to it, rather than handing it to the agent directly, and serves the usual session on the workspace's port.

  • One document per workspace. Each workspace gets its own document in the shared app, made active before every call. Workspaces using the same app take turns.
  • Saved to the worktree. save writes the document into the workspace, so it is committed and merged like any other CAD file.
  • The app's own tools come along. They are offered to agents as <cad>_<tool>, next to Cxddie's six.

These need a one-time setup in the app. See the Fusion, Rhino, Revit, SketchUp, SolidWorks and AutoCAD pages. Revit, SolidWorks and AutoCAD run on Windows only.

Where Cxddie finds them

  • macOS: /Applications (and ~/Applications), or your PATH.
  • Windows: under Program Files. For versioned folders such as FreeCAD 1.0, Cxddie picks the newest.

Override with an environment variable: CXDDIE_FREECAD, CXDDIE_BLENDER, CXDDIE_OPENSCAD, CXDDIE_UV, CXDDIE_FUSION, CXDDIE_RHINO, CXDDIE_REVIT, CXDDIE_SKETCHUP, CXDDIE_SOLIDWORKS or CXDDIE_AUTOCAD.
