Cxddie

SolidWorks

Parametric parts in SolidWorks, through solidworks-mcp.

Kind: App MCP · Document: model.SLDPRT · Platform: Windows · Override: CXDDIE_SOLIDWORKS

Cxddie drives SolidWorks through the open-source solidworks-mcp server (SolidWorks 2023–2025) and serves the usual CAD session on the workspace's port, so agents get the same tools as everywhere else.

One-time setup

  1. Install Python 3.10 or newer.

  2. Clone solidworks-mcp and run pip install -r requirements.txt in it.

  3. Set CXDDIE_SOLIDWORKS_MCP to the command that starts it, for example:

    setx CXDDIE_SOLIDWORKS_MCP "python C:\path\to\solidworks-mcp\solidworks_mcp_server.py"
  4. Restart Cxddie so it sees the variable.

If SolidWorks isn't running, Start launches it and waits for it.

One document per workspace

Every workspace gets its own part: the open document whose file is the worktree's model.SLDPRT. When the file doesn't exist yet, Cxddie creates it from your default part template. Cxddie makes it active before every call. Workspaces using SolidWorks take turns, so several agents can share one SolidWorks. save saves the part in place (Save As to another path writes a copy), and an existing .SLDPRT in the repo is opened when the workspace starts.

What agents get

run_code runs Python against SolidWorks over COM, with sw (the SolidWorks application), doc (the workspace's part), win32com and pythoncom in scope. print() output is returned, and so is a variable named result. solidworks-mcp's other tools are offered too, as solidworks_<tool>, for example solidworks_create_sketch and solidworks_extrude_sketch.

export writes STEP, IFC, and STL, GLB or OBJ meshes.

Conventions agents are told

  • The SolidWorks API works in metres: divide millimetres by 1000.
  • Prefer features (sketches, extrudes, fillets) and name them.

SolidWorks support is new and has been tested against a stand-in server, not yet against a live SolidWorks. If something doesn't work, please let us know.
