Cxddie

Your first workspace

Model an L-bracket with an agent in FreeCAD, start to finish.

This walkthrough uses FreeCAD and Claude Code. Any CAD system and connected agent works the same way.

1. Add a project

Click Add project and pick a folder — an existing git repo or an empty folder. Cxddie initialises git if needed, ignores .cxddie/, and sets up git-lfs for CAD files when it's installed.

2. Create a workspace

Click the project's + and choose:

  • Name — l-bracket
  • CAD system — FreeCAD
  • Agent — Claude Code

Installed tools are listed first. Cxddie then:

  1. creates a git worktree on branch cxddie/l-bracket under ~/.cxddie/workspaces/,
  2. launches FreeCAD with the Cxddie bridge loaded, on the workspace's own port,
  3. opens Claude Code in a terminal, already connected to that session through cxddie-mcp.

3. Prompt

Paste this into the agent:

Model an L-bracket, 60×40 mm legs, 6 mm thick, 30 mm wide, with two
Ø5 mm holes in each leg. Screenshot it from iso, save, and export STEP.

You'll see the agent call get_scene, then run_code to build a PartDesign body, screenshot to check itself, save, and finally export. The 3D model panel reloads after each save. Switch to the FreeCAD view tab to see the native viewport.

The STEP file lands in .cxddie/exports/model.step inside the workspace.

4. Iterate

Keep talking to the agent — "fillet the inside bend with r=4", "make the holes counterbored". Each save updates the view.

5. Keep it

When you're happy, open a shell in the workspace (+ Terminal → Shell) and commit — the workspace is an ordinary branch, cxddie/l-bracket, that you can merge, push or open a pull request from. Do that before removing the workspace, which deletes the branch.

Workspaces started with Fan out also get Keep this, which saves, commits and merges the result for you.

Try fan-out next

Send the same prompt to three agents at once and compare. See Fan out, compare, keep.
